February 16, 1849 (Friday)

This is a bitter cold morning—but one colder morning this winter—thermometer 2°—the river Delaware filled up with ice; and excellent skating on the Schuylkill.

So cold this evening, did not venture out.

The Schuylkill River forms the western boundary of old Philadelphia. It is a two mile walk from Nathan’s 1849 address (Third and Arch Streets).  See the map of Nathan Beekley’s World.
