March 8, 1849 (Thursday)

What a splendid day—one can appreciate such a day after the unpleasant weather we have had.

There was an Eclipse of the moon this evening, which, the moon being full and it being clear, was very beautiful.

Called on the Misses Wests.

The partial lunar eclipse began in the Philadelphia area at 6:25 pm and lasted until 9:26 pm.
