April 8, 1849 (Sunday)

Contrary to my anticipations, last evening, this is a delightful day.  Went to St. John’s both morning and evening, and assisted the choir in singing a couple of very appropriate anthems for the occasion.  Rev. E. N. Leightner [sic] preached in the evening.  Large congregation.  Went to Sunday School.  Miss K. R—y & Miss M. B—y were up but I did not speak to them.

Nathan is in Norristown for Easter Sunday.  He attended St. John’s Episcopal Church, which he first mentioned on March 25.

Reverend Edwin N. Lightner (1817–1881), educated at Kenyon College (1836) and the General Theological Seminary of New York (1839), was the rector of Christ Church (Swede’s) in nearby Upper Merion until 1854.
