June 10, 1849 (Sunday)

A wet morning, but clear and delightful towards evening.

Did not go out in the morning, went to St. Philip’s in the afternoon and in the evening started to go to St Luke’s in company with Mr. Tilden, wife & daughter, but found the church closed, then went to Barnes’  where I had the pleasure of seeing Miss E—a S—h.

For more information on St. Philip’s Church, see the entry for January 21.

Nathan has not mentioned St. Luke’s Church, on South 13th Street between Pine and Cypress, since January 14.

As mentioned on June 5,  Mr. Tilden is probably Hiram B. Tilden, a clerk, who has a wife, Mary, and a daughter, Carrole.

Reverend Albert Barnes’ church was the First Presbyterian Church at Washington Square. For more, see the entry for January 7.
