June 20, 1849 (Wednesday)

Bright and warm.  Received an invitation to attend a Picnik to be held near Norristown, to-morrow week.  Shall not go.

Visited the Blind Asylum this afternoon—the place was crowded—had to stand—performance very good.

Did not go out in the evening.

Nathan first mentions the Pennsylvania Institution for the Instruction of the Blind on February 13.  Presumably, he saw a concert performed by students of the Institution.  The event was not covered by the Philadelphia papers.
