July 7, 1849 (Saturday)

Pleasant day tho rather close.

Had a conversation this afternoon with Mr. Reeves  in relation to an increase of salary, as the 6 months trial have passed, it resulted in nothing satisfactory, and will be held in consideration a few days.

Mr. David Reeves (1793–1871) was the president of Reeves, Buck and Co where Nathan worked.  It was presumably with him that Nathan had his unsatisfactory conversation (we’ll see how it turns out in a week or so).  Mr. Reeves’s son, Samuel J. Reeves (1818–1878) was also in the business.  It is, of course, possible Nathan spoke to the younger Mr. Reeves.
