July 8, 1849 (Sunday)

This has been a real April day close and showery.  Did not go out until afternoon, when in company with Mr. Hubbard went up the Delaware to Tacony.

Did not go out in the evening.

The mysterious Mr. Hubbard first comes to light on May 30.

Tacony is a neighborhood of northeast Philadelphia, approximately ten miles from the city center.  It is the oldest continuously inhabited neighborhood in the city, predating William Penn’s arrival by some six years.
