August 2, 1849 (Thursday)

Fine day—was out gunning a while this morning, and went to see sister Elizabeth this afternoon at Evans.

Elizabeth Beekley was born about 1823 and was still living in her father’s household in 1850.  Presumably Evans is a family that employs Elizabeth or perhaps it is the name of a nearby village or hamlet. By 1853, Elizabeth married East Nantmeal farmer David Lockhart.  She and David had at least three sons, John, William and Edwin. Her father John and niece Annie are living with the Lockhart (also spelled Lockart) family in 1870, but Elizabeth is not enumerated with her husband and sons in 1880.  John, an invalid, had moved to daughter Sarah’s.  Although a death record has not been found, it is likely Elizabeth died before 1880.
