September 16, 1849 (Sunday)

Unexpectedly this has been a very fine day, but entirely too warm for comfort.

My friend came up this morning in the first train.  We went to Episcopal church in the morning, took a walk in the afternoon, and as there was no church in the evening, called to see several young ladies.

The church to which Nathan refers is St. John’s Episcopal Church in Norristown, where his uncle, Reverend Nathan Stem, is the rector.  See the March 25 post for more.
