December 21, 1849 (Friday)

By way of variety this has been a lovely day, and the ladies, young and old, handsome and homely, rich and poor, appeared to take all possible advantage of it.  Was called on today by Uncle Nathan.  Accompanied brother H. to the circus this evening.

Uncle Nathan is Reverend Nathan Stem, rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Norristown.

Brother H. is Henry Beekley (b. ca. 1829), who, as of the 1850 US census, was a mason.
